Cornwall Based architects, designing and managing new build, refurbishments, retrofits and extensions.
Dig Architects are based in Millbrook, in South East Cornwall, and have a deep connection to Cornwall and Cornish life; we are passionate about where we are lucky enough to live and work in. The spirit of place, combined with contemporary sustainable design and attention to detail, helps shape our work.
We aim for net zero as standard.
Dig Architects typically adopt a non-standard ‘low tech, high performance’ approach - to drive down costs and energy demand (in use).
Dig Architects design high-performance, sustainable buildings; this means net zero - operational energy demand - as standard. A fabric-first approach to design and detailing is taken, based on Passiv haus principles, to reduce space heating demand and total energy consumption. This is achieved by focusing on:
orientation: capture and control south facing solar gains, whilst minimising loses on north elevations.
insulation: reduce heat loss, and therefore space heating demand, through high levels of insulation and glazing spec.
thermal bridges: minimise gaps in the insulation layer, this is achieved by the unique approach to insulating 100% outboard of structure.
shape: an efficient form factor combined with a reduced amount of complex junctions.
airtightness: seal the building to reduce unwanted infiltration of cold air, backed up by a heat recovery ventilation system to ensure superior air quality levels.
You’re at the heart of everything we do
We take great pride in designs that are based around and understand you and your needs, both current and future needs – resulting in buildings that are bespoke, personal, and fit-for purpose for the long term, whilst remaining sensitive to the site and its context. Each and every project is different. These factors help shape crafted modern buildings that are comfortable, pleasurable, and enhance their setting – sometimes dramatically, sometimes subtly.
